Yandex Music Chart: How It Works and How to Get Into the Top 100

In short

The Yandex Music chart is the list of the most played tracks on the service right now – one list for every listener, at music.yandex.ru/chart. Officially, a track's place depends on the number of plays, the list updates automatically and only users can influence it: editors don't compile it and a position can't be bought. There is no fixed number of plays for the top 100 – a track competes with everything people play at the same moment. The way in is six steps, from a correct release to a series of releases.

Key facts: the Yandex Music chart

  • What it is: the most played tracks on Yandex Music right now, one list for everyone
  • Where: music.yandex.ru/chart and the chart section in the app
  • How it is built: by the number of plays, updated automatically
  • Editors: don't compile it by hand; a position can't be bought
  • Threshold for the top 100: not published – it depends on what else is being played
  • Fake plays: treated as manipulation – the track can be excluded from recommendations and search

Checked by the editors: 6 October 2026

Mechanics described only from Yandex Music's own materials.

For many listeners in Russia, the Yandex Music chart is the first screen they open – and editors and media watch it too. Every artist wants to be there, but the rules are simpler and stricter than most guides suggest. Here is what Yandex says officially, what nobody knows, and the six steps that actually lead there.

What the chart is and where to find it

The chart is the list of the most played tracks on Yandex Music right now. It is open to everyone at music.yandex.ru/chart and in the chart section of the app; listeners call it "the Yandex Music top 100". Don't confuse it with personal recommendations: My Wave is different for every listener, while the chart is one for all. A chart position isn't an algorithm's guess about one listener – it shows how many people play the track alongside every other release in the country. Yandex Music also has artist rankings and personal monthly stats for listeners; those are different lists.

How the chart is built: the official part

Yandex's official description is short: a track's place depends on the number of plays, the list updates automatically, and only users can influence it. Editors don't compile the chart by hand, and a position can't be bought from the service.

The exact formula – the time window, how repeat plays by one listener count, when the list refreshes – isn't public. So any article claiming it is "known" that the chart is recalculated daily from the last three days relies on observation, not on Yandex's documents. We don't give such numbers.

How many plays you need for the top 100

There is no fixed threshold, and there can't be: the chart is a ranking, not a bar to clear. Your track is compared with every release played at the same moment, so in a week of big releases the bottom of the list rises, and in a quiet week it falls. The service doesn't publish these numbers, and nobody can honestly say "you need 50,000 plays a day".

What you can see is who gets there: almost always artists who already have a large audience outside Yandex Music – concerts, music videos, viral short videos and radio. For an emerging artist the realistic goal is growth from release to release, editorial playlists and My Wave – that is what feeds the chart later.

How to get into the chart: 6 steps

The steps go in order: each one works only if the previous one is done.

StepWhat you doWhy it matters for the chart
1. Release through a distributorUpload the track with correct metadata, cover art and a release date set in advanceWithout a correct page the track is hard to find, and plays get split between duplicates
2. Artist pageClaim your page, add a photo and a description, make sure releases don't land on a namesake's pageListeners follow the artist and get the new release in their feed
3. Pitching before releaseSend the track to playlist editors in advanceAn editorial playlist brings the first wave of plays from new listeners
4. Signals for My WaveBring your own listeners to the track in the first days: likes, saves, full listensThe algorithm starts showing the track to a similar audience
5. Outside trafficMusic videos, vertical videos, concerts, media and links to the track on social mediaThe chart reflects real demand, and most of it is created outside the service
6. A series of releasesRelease regularly and study each track's statisticsThe audience grows from release to release, and one of the tracks takes off on a ready base

Steps 3 and 4 in detail – how to get on Yandex Music playlists; step 2 – Yandex Music for Artists.

Why fake plays won't get you into the top

Yandex Music's rules call fake plays and likes manipulation of the algorithms. The service may label such content, limit its distribution, exclude it from recommendations and search, and restrict access to it, notifying the rights holder. Even if a boosted track climbs for a day, real listeners won't stay: they don't finish it or save it, and the algorithm sees the failure. The artist loses the track and the service's trust in the next releases.

Chart, My Wave or playlists: what brings a newcomer more plays

For an artist with up to a few thousand listeners a month, the chart is a result, not a channel. At the start, plays come from three places: editorial playlists, My Wave and your own audience from social media. The chart kicks in when all three already bring many plays at the same time. So a plan "to get into the chart" is in practice a release plan: the date, pitching, content for the two weeks around the release and work with your audience.

Where to start

With a correct release on all three Russian platforms – Yandex Music, VK Music and Zvuk – through a distributor that delivers there. Who does it in 2026 – in music distributors for Russia.

Sources and methodology

The chart's mechanics are described only from Yandex Music's own materials: the Yandex Music blog post of 11 October 2017 on how the chart is formed, and the content rules in Yandex Music's help (fake plays and measures). Both were checked on 6 October 2026. What the official materials don't say – the counting period and the threshold – this article doesn't claim.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I see the Yandex Music chart?

At music.yandex.ru/chart and in the chart section of the app. It is one list for every listener, unlike My Wave.

How is the Yandex Music chart calculated?

Officially, by the number of plays: the list updates automatically and only users can influence it. The time window and the exact formula aren't public.

How many plays do I need to get into the top 100?

There is no fixed number: a track competes with everything played at the same moment, so the bar rises in weeks of big releases and falls in quiet ones.

Can I buy a place in the Yandex Music chart?

No. Editors don't compile the chart, and fake plays are treated as manipulation: the track can be excluded from recommendations and search.

What brings more plays to a new artist – the chart or My Wave?

My Wave, editorial playlists and your own audience. The chart is the result of those three working at the same time.
