How VK Music royalties are calculated
The scheme is the same pro-rata model as at all major services: the platform adds up the month's revenue, deducts its share and splits the rest between rights holders in proportion to their share of total streams. A track with 10,000 streams out of 10 billion gets one millionth of the pool.
- Subscribers are worth more. One subscriber stream brings 5–8 times more than a free-tier stream, so an audience of paying users raises your average rate.
- The distributor's share. The artist receives the amount minus the fee of the service that released the track: a percentage at some, a fixed subscription at others.
- Reports come with a delay. VK Music reports to the distributor for the previous month, and the distributor pays on its own schedule – usually one to three months after the plays.

One platform rarely feeds an artist: VK Music usually brings 15–30% of a Russian-language release's streams; the rest comes from Yandex Music, Zvuk and Apple Music.
How to earn more on VK Music
- Get the track into VK Clips. This is the ecosystem's main feature: clips with your track raise it in VK Music's own recommendations. Post 3–5 videos a week on a 15-second fragment.
- Fill in the artist card. Photo, description, social links and a pinned release – without them the algorithm links one performer's tracks less well.
- Keep a release schedule. A single every 4–8 weeks gives the algorithm a reason to show you again; one release a year doesn't.
- Pitch to playlists. VK Music's editorial selections give a spike, and listeners' own playlists give a long tail.
- Watch subscribers, not the stream count. 50,000 streams from subscribers are worth more than 80,000 from free listeners.
VK Music or Yandex Music: where artists earn more
Per stream VK Music pays slightly more than Yandex Music (11–85 ₽ against 9–50 ₽ per 1,000), but in total money it is noticeably smaller: Yandex Music takes 54.9% of music streaming revenue in Russia and VK Music 20% (J'son & Partners Consulting, 2025). How to get onto VK Music and receive payouts
Anyone can upload an audio file to their page, but it isn't a release: such files don't appear in search, recommendations or payout reports.
